Splicing wood veneer is the process of machine splicing veneer of the same tree species and thickness into a large format finished veneer, which can be divided into two categories: wired splicing (hot melt glue line) and seamless splicing.
Advantages:
1.Size not limited by logs:
The width of naturally sliced natural wood veneer is limited by the diameter of the original wood; Splicing can be made into large sheets or long rolls, meeting the needs of large-area veneering of wall panels, doors, and large furniture. It can be directly used in factories without on-site splicing, improving production efficiency.
2.High material utilization rate and good cost-effectiveness:
Reasonably utilizing small-sized veneer to reduce waste of logs, with lower procurement costs compared to whole large veneer, suitable for mass production of furniture, cabinets, and wooden doors.
3. Standardization of finished products, convenient construction:
The finished product is made of whole/rolled wood veneer, with uniform thickness and minimal repair. The veneer is not easy to crack and is suitable for hot pressing technology, making it suitable for large-scale production in factories.
4.Seamless splicing with high quality:
High end seamless craftsmanship, with almost no visible seams on both sides, and the texture can achieve smooth and coherent texture, approaching the overall appearance of the leather; The finger joint structure is firmly bonded, resistant to temperature and humidity changes, and not easy to crack.
5.Customizable texture effects:
It can be assembled smoothly, randomly, and with matching patterns to achieve different decorative styles. Some rare tree knots and shadow patterned wood veneers rely on splicing to achieve large-area finishes.
Shortcoming:
1. Wired splicing (glue line version) will leave glue line traces, visible under strong light, not suitable for high demand paint surfaces; When there is a large fluctuation in temperature and humidity, there is a risk of cracking at the position of the adhesive line.
2. High dependence on leather selection and craftsmanship: If the color difference screening of the wood face veneer is not done properly, the surface color will appear after splicing; Poor seam accuracy can result in height differences and gaps.
3. It is impossible to achieve a complete and uninterrupted texture of the original wood. Compared to natural whole wood veneer, it lacks the complete texture continuity of a whole piece of wood. Top end high-end projects will prioritize the use of whole wood veneer.
